No Doggie

Our application was rejected. Reason? No fenced in yard.

Makes sense, but it would have been nice not to waste our time filling in the application form. If fence is a prerequisite, why don't they mention it on the form? It's not like you can lie about it because they do a home visit.

We still plan to get a dog, also to put in a fence, not necessarily in that order, but we'll see what happens.

Yesterday, we went to Michaels to look for something, but because of where we parked, we had to walk past a Petco. It turns out that there was a dog rescue group having an adoption fest there. We were just going to walk by and glance at the couple of dogs in front of the store. Instead, we were inexorably drawn in. Inside, they had maybe twenty dogs of all kinds.

We had wanted a dog for a long time, but we had thought we shouldn't get one because we won't be able to spend a lot of time during the day.

We changed our minds. If we wait till we can spend every day with a dog, we may be retired! We went ahead and applied for adoption today.

I wasn't sure what kind of a blog this was going to be, but maybe this will become a heavily dog-centric one. Stay tuned.

Shi-chan wins gold!

It's silly and very parochial of me, but I was glad that Arakawa won gold for Japan in figure skating. I got a little moist when the anthem was played. It has been a terrible olympics for Japan, with so many 4th place finishes.

In my biased opinion, I thought it was a fabulous performance, particularly the silky smoothness of the moves. For a change, the hand movements didn't look forced, and steps didn't look just thrown in. Ina Bauer was just so elegantly done, even though it didn't generate any technical points. I applaud her for including it, because she "wanted to skate it." Thank you Shi-chan.

I'm not convinced I have the temerament to keep up a blog. I haven't written in a diary since grade school. I guess we'll find out.
